We believe in a regenerative organic 'whole system' approach to farming that improves biodiversity.

As a whole system approach, regenerative organic farming improves biodiversity, soil health, carbon sequestration, water quality and the production of healthy, nutrient dense food.

In addition to our whole system approach, on Yeo Valley Farms we also prioritise habitats to benefit our local wildlife.

On average, plant, insect and bird life is 30% more abundant on organic farms.

What is a priority habitat?

What is a priority habitat?

Priority habitats are key locations for promoting and protecting biodiversity like hedgerows and dry stone walls.

On Yeo Valley's own farms, we have selected our priority habitats and species, and we are managing these to higher level Country Stewardship standards and Sustainable Farming Incentive initiatives.

Actions we're taking

  • We've selected four species to work with on our own Yeo Valley farms: Hazel Dormouse, Skylarks, Adders and Dung Beetles.

  • We're working with local experts to ensure we adapt our current farming practices, prioritise habitat management and run species specific projects.

  • Farmers who supply milk to Yeo Valley Organic are being asked to identify the priority species relevant to their farm and give targeted support to up to four of these species.

  • We're collaborating with universities to explore the use of emerging technologies such as remote sensing and bioacoustics technologies to investigate how best to measure and quantify changes to biodiversity as a result of the way we farm.
